Transforming photos into a work of art in 20 minutes

by Christine on May 22nd, 2005

You have a favourite photo of yourself or your loved one that you think is worth framing, what would you rather do?

This?

Or this?

I’d go for the latter any time! The art of scrapping is not just for the pages of your ’scrapbook albums’ but also for your photos that you want to display around your home.

Here are 5 easy steps in adding the ‘wow’ to your favourite photo:
1. Determine size of the layout you want to do and cut to size (In this case, I had a 5×7 frame so I cropped the cardstock to 5×7).2. Crop your photo to highlight subject (I cropped around my daughter’s photo to remove the clutter behind her)
3. Pick a patterned paper that would complement the photograph (I used blue and green patterned paper to complement the colour of the spaghetti straps my daughter is wearing on the photo)
4. Select an accent (I chose Making Memories round tags and the letter ‘B’ metal tag)
5. Adhere patterned papers and photo onto cardstock and insert in photo frame.

Presto, you’re done! This only took me less than 30 minutes to do. I also ‘recycled’ an old glass frame so I didn’t have to buy a new frame for this project.

Love this! I’m going to do a similar project for my husband for father’s day using a picture of him with the girls and some vellum and eyelets.

Hi Nikki — I gave this to my daughter for her 8th birthday. Wanted to add some more accents but got no more space!

This is an excellent idea, and what a great gift it would make for someone.

Hi Tammy — I agree, it’s such a personal gift that I’m sure whoever receives it will totally appreciate it.
