Making a Travel Album from scratch

It’s now summer time (well in the Northern Hemisphere anyway!) and I am sure by the end of it, you’d be keen to capture your travel memories through a travel album.
Simple Scrapbooking Mag has just the album for you! Learn how to make a travel album from scratch!

Step-by-step instructions after the jump!
“Beyond the Page” (page 89 of latest SS issue), is a quick and easy solution for storing and displaying items such as airplane ticket stubs, hotel key cards, postcards, business cards, and more. Here’s how to make it:
What You’ll Need:
2 1 x 5 1/2 pieces of cardboard
2 7 1/2 x 5 1/2 pieces of cardboard
2 11 x 8 1/2 pieces of patterned paper
2 8 1/4 x 5 1/4 pieces of cardstock
30-40 8 1/2 x 5 1/2 pieces of cardstock
masking tape
favorite adhesive
bone folder
two-hole punch
large needle
1 yard of ribbon
plastic letters
Krylon paint pen
date stamp
“travel log” stamp
stamping ink
Simple Steps:
1. To make the cover, place one 1 x 5 1/2 piece of cardboard and one 7 1/2 x 5 1/2 piece of cardboard side by side, leaving a ⅛-inch space between them.
2. Wrap a piece of masking tape around the side-by-side cardboard pieces to hold them together. The 1/2-inch space allows the cover to fold open easily.
3. Adhere the cardboard cover to the center of an 11 x 8 1/2 piece of patterned paper. Wrap the cover by first folding over the corners and adhering them in place and then wrapping the sides and adhering. Use a bone folder to smooth out trapped air bubbles and folds.
4. Adhere an 8 1/4 x 5 1/4 piece of cardstock to the inside cover to conceal the folds.
5. Repeat steps 14 to make the back cover.
6. Use a twohole punch to punch holes in the front and back covers and the 3040 8 1/2 x 5 1/2 pieces of cardstock. Stack the covers and paper pieces together so that theyre ready for binding.
7. Bind the travel log using a large needle threaded with 1 yard of ribbon. Starting with the bottom hole, push the needle up through the back of the book, leaving about a 4-inch tail.
8. Wrap the ribbon around the bottom end of the book, and come back up through the bottom hole. (Be sure to hold the tail end in place so that it doesnt slip through.)
9. Wrap the ribbon around the side of the book, and come back up through the bottom hole. Pull tight.
10. Thread the ribbon across the spine and down through the top hole.
11. Wrap the ribbon around the top of the book, and come back down through the top hole.
12. Wrap the ribbon around the side of the book, and come back down through the top hole. Pull tight.
13. Tie off the ribbon in the back.
14. Embellish cover as desired using plastic letters, Krylon paint pen, date stamp, “travel log” stamp, and stamping ink.

What a great way to store all of your memories in one place. We are headed to England in September… that should give me tons of time to collect what I need and then whip up this little project. Thanks for the idea. :)
