Creating a Scrapbook Album
Recently, a question has been raised by a fellow member at a Scrap Egroup that I belong to regarding the “right” way to create a scrapbook album. Does the album have to follow a certain colour scheme throughout the album or can you use different colour schemes per page?
Well, my answer would be…it depends on the scrapbooker.
I have done both where I followed a particular colour scheme/combination and used the same colour of cardstock and 2-3 patterned papers all throughout the album to give it a look of continuity. You can find the album here. In this album, I also used circle shapes all throughout.
This technique works best when your album is thematic, for example, a birthday or wedding album.
I am on a new album where I am using various techniques, different colour schemes for each double layout. In my daughter’s ABC Album, you can see that for each double layout save for the “A is for Adorable” layout that has no ‘partner’ layout, all double layouts like B and C follow the same colour cardstock for continuity of looking from left to right. The pages look more consistent. Flip over to next pages of the D and E layouts and I have used a different colour scheme altogether.
Obviously, this particular album is not finished yet as I still have 21 pages to go for the remaining letters of the alphabet BUT I am getting there. :-) In this album, you’d notice thought that I have maintained the use of ‘pastel’ colour cardstocks. It was more of a personal choice than anything else but I ensure that each page matches the photos so the colours of the photos don’t clash with the cardstock, patterned papers and embellishments used.
